Several reasons: As a gigging musician, I often had to learn solos to new material very quickly. I searched and searched for a resource to really nail solos and struggled to find a 100% solution. Trust me the audience will cheer when you nail it live. The guitar-based music styles we love are steadily being eclipsed by electronic music. We want this art form to not only survive but evolve. Clapton’s quote on the blues tradition: “Pass it Along” You can practice and learn all the theory in the world, but I learned that by steadily learning the solos of an artist, you start to uncover their signature moves and tricks of the trade
Because that’s the way you really open the door to learning. Whether it is different performances by the same artist or multiple artists on one song it’s going to make you a better player. Personally, I find that once I learn two or three versions of a solo it unlocks the door to my own improvisation. Follow the breadcrumbs long enough and you can find your own trail.
